Rajasthan PWD has applied new thermal-reflective road paints in Jodhpur’s inner city to reduce surface heat retention. These paints include light-colored aggregates and heat-resistant binders, reflecting up to 70% solar radiation. Measurements indicate that treated roads are 8‑10 °C cooler during peak afternoons, reducing urban heat and easing traffic conditions. The paints are designed for tropical climates and wear-resistant for truck-heavy routes. The pilot spans 3 km of arterial roads and is monitored for drag resistance and fading. Officials plan to roll out reflective surfacing across public transport corridors to improve commuter comfort and durability.
