Gujarat’s Wetland Authority has introduced floating wetland parks in salt pan reservoirs near Rann of Kutch. The wetlands are constructed with buoyant planters housing native marsh vegetation to filter saline runoff and provide bird habitats. Initial monitoring shows a 45% reduction in salt content discharged into adjacent wetlands. Avian populations, especially flamingos, increased seasonally. The floating treatment systems degrade excess nutrients and improve water quality. They are maintained by local communities hired under MGNREGA schemes. State Water Agencies are evaluating these parks for replication across coastal wetlands and controlled salinity sites.
